Description |
Huge forest tree of the upper stratum. Locally common, on other place in those mountains almost absent, c. 40 m. tall, the bole 31 m. long. DBH.: 70 cm. Some low feebly developed buttresses, otherwise the bole round. Crown widely spreading. Bark smooth, very pale brown, locally peeling in thin flakes. Living bark 1 cm. thick, dark red brown. Softwood pale yellowish, 3-4 cm. thick. Heartwood dark red brown. Bracts violet-pink. Calyx tube dark purple, the lobes reddish-pink. Only 3 petals developed, yellow. Filaments white. Anthers orange. Flowers faintly fragrant. Young leaves pale yellowish-green with red flush. leaflets thin leathery. |
