| Description |
Epiphytic herb. The stems up to 1 m long, hanging down. Leaves very thick leathery, nearly succulent, dark green above, sugar-brown beneath. Inflorescences male and female (found 1 inflor. in wich the top flower is male and in wich there are 2 x 3 female flowers). Most often a branch is either male or female, but male and female inflorescences on the same branch occur. Male inflorescence: Peduncule up to 25 mm long, then forking with branches up to 10 mm, then forking again in a dichasial manner and bearing (2 x 7 + 1 = 15) flowers, normally fewer. Outer 2 tepals obovate up to 7 x 5.5 mm, very pale pink to whitish with short red lines from the base and a narrow red margin all around. Inner 2 tepals much smaller, about 5 x 1.5 mm, white, reddish at the base without red margin. Stamens very short (0.3 mm) connected filament,and with 7-9 nearly sessile erect yellow anther. Pedicels of male flowers white up to 13.5 mm long. Female infloresc. bearing up to 6 flowers (no real open feale flowers seen) - well developed flowerbuds with 2 ovate outer tepals, white mottled with red outside, 9 x 6 mm, inside just like male flower outer sepals. Inner 2 tepals 6.5 x 2.5 mm, white, some short reddish lines at the base styles 3, yellow, bearing dark red 2 mm long more or less erect papillate stigmas at the apex. (Styles and stigma together 6 mm long, pedicels of female flowers up to 3 mm long, more or less gradually merging in the fusiform ovary, wich measured up to 15 x 2 mm. |
